“My previous starts weren't great, but we made some modifications and the car was fantastic. When I’m in the lead, I never let go of my position,” assures Norbert Michelisz, who takes second place in the general classification, 28 points from Esteban Guerrieri.
If the fight for the first two places did not take place during the three laps of this Race 1, the fight for the places of honor was superb. The (very) long Döttinger Höhe straight saw several contacts at full speed between Rob Huff (Volkswagen), Frédéric Vervisch (Audi) and Nestor Girolami (Honda). It was ultimately the latter who benefited the most from it.
The first Frenchman classified is Yann Ehrlacher (Lynk & Co) in sixth place. Yvan Muller (Lynk & Co) was eliminated in the second turn following an open left front axle in a collision. Jean-Karl Vernay (Audi), who started 16th following a penalty, finished 12th. Aurélien Panis (Cupra) finished 17th.
Outgoing champion Gabriele Tarquini (Hyundai) was on his way to a solid performance (5th) when a steering problem forced him to retire. Daniel Häglof (Cupra) and Gordon Shedden (Audi) also retired after contact.
WTCR by Oscaro Race 2 at the Nürburgring will take place on Saturday 22 June at 11am.
