C1 – Vernay winner while in control in Wuhan

And three! After Morocco and the Netherlands in the spring, Jean Karl Vernay (Audi) scored the third success of its 2018 season in the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) on Sunday in Wuhan (China).

The Frenchman led the entire 20 laps of the first race of the weekend on the street circuit, and is ahead of Pepe Oriola (Cupra) as well as his Team WRT partner Gordon Shedden. The English BTCC champion also scored his first podium in the championship.

“I managed to keep the lead at the start, then I avoided looking in the mirrors and instead focused on my pace in the race. I will try to repeat my performance on Sunday”, expressed the 30-year-old pilot.

Jean-Karl Vernay suddenly moves up to fifth place in the general classification, just two points behind Norbert Michelisz (Hyundai, last). The outgoing winner of the TCR International Series now only points to 48 point of leader Gabriele Tarquini (Hyundai).

This race is also an excellent operation for Yann Erlacher (Honda). The Münnich Motorsport driver closes to 49 points behind Gabriele Tarquini thanks to a fourth place. The Frenchman scraped four places in barely one lap!

The Hyundais also recorded a collective zero. Thed Björk is 13, Yvan muller finished 16th after a poor qualifying, with Gabriele Tarquini only 18th.

Let us also note the sixth place ofAurélien Comte (Peugeot ), while Nathanaël Berthon (Audi, 9th) lost a podium which was reaching out to him after contact with his teammate Denis Dupont (11th).
