C2: Aurélien Comte unblocks the counter for Peugeot at Zandvoort

After a difficult start to the season, DG Sport Compétition scored its first victory in the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) on Monday midday in Zandvoort (Netherlands). The Belgian team, the only team to have equipped itself with Peugeot 308 TCR, won the laurels thanks to the driving force of the Bordelais Aurélien Comte.

The 2017 TCR Europe winner took the lead as soon as the lights went out over the Briton James Thompson (Honda). The latter tried to pass the Frenchman again, without success.

The Münnich Motorsport driver then gave up his place to the winner of Race 1 Yann Ehrlacher (Honda) en vue du classement général. Une belle opération car le neveu d’Yvan Muller (Hyundai) revient à un petit point du leader au championnat, after another abandonment.

The other French entries finished far away. John Filippi (Cupra) scored the point for 10th place, while Nathanaël Berthon (Audi) finished 15th. Author of pole for Race 3, Jean-Karl Vernay (Audi) did not finish the event to spare his car ; the 2017 TCR International Series champion had left the pits due to an engine change. The Safety Car intervened following a collision between Fabrizio Giovanardi (Alfa Romeo) and Aurélien Panis (Audi).

Race 3 will be held on Monday at 16:35 p.m.
