Huff and Guerrieri take poles for Sunday in Macau

Rob Huff took pole position for WTCR Race 3 at the Guia circuit in Macau, confirming his status as the king of the street circuit. The driver of Sébastien's Volkswagen Golf Loeb Racing will aim for a 10th victory on the circuit on Sunday. Esteban Guerrieri (Honda Civic – Münnich Motorsport), championship leader and who will start dead last in race 1, took pole for race 2.

Q1

The session quickly saw two incidents neutralize the debates with contact between Jim Ka To (Honda Civic – KCMG) with the Cupra of Robert Dahlgren, then especially contact with the tire wall of Terence Kin Leung Tse (Honda Civic – Team TRC) , requiring the evacuation of the car by a crane.

Benjamin Leuchter (Volkswagen Golf – SLR) is the next victim on the Guia route after hitting the protective barriers.

The session is neutralized under a red flag and will not restart, leaving the top 12 qualified in the second part of qualifying, including Yann Ehrlacher and Yvan Muller (Lynk&Co 03 – Cyan Racing), Jean-Karl Vernay (Audi RS 3 LMS – Audi Sport Team Leopard), Norbert Michelisz and Esteban Guerrieri (Honda Civic – Münnich Motorsport), who advance to Q2.

Q2

The second part of qualifying saw Rob Huff once again prove to be the fastest, completing a lap in 2'28"445, more than three tenths ahead of Jean-Karl Vernay and Yvan Muller before improving on his next attempt in 2'27″963, this time four tenths ahead of Nick Catsburg (Hyundai i30 – BRC).

Followed by Andy Priaulx (Lunk&Co 03 – Cyan Racing), Vernay, Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen Golf – SLR), who starts on the Guia track and Yvan Muller, who fails at the gates of Q3.

10th in this Q2, Esteban Guerrieri takes pole for race 2, under the reverse grid rule.

After his Q1 accident, Norbert Michelisz was unable to return to the track, leaving the Hungarian in 12th position on the grid for race 2.

Q3

The decisive part of the qualification saw Rob Huff confirm by achieving the reference time in 2'28″538. Andy Priaulx is the Briton's closest pursuer, less than two tenths behind, while Jean-Karl Vernay takes third place in this Shootout, less than eight tenths behind.

Nick Catsburg and Johan Kristoffersson follow, the latter showing a little optimism in his lap when he hits the tire wall.
