Josh Files replaces Catsburg in Spain

He hadn't driven since February. Josh Files, reigning TCR Europe champion, only completed TCR Asia in 2020. He will finally be able to get back behind the wheel and even be promoted. The Briton will indeed lead the Hyundai i30 N TCR at the WTCR in Aragon this weekend with the Engstler team. He will replace Nicky Catsburg, who tested positive for Covid-19 after the 24 Hours of Spa raced last weekend.

Josh Files is starting to have quite a pedigree having also won the German TCR twice, but he will be making his WTCR debut. “This is the top level of touring cars in the world and this is obviously my goal since I started TCR” reacted the driver. “I can't believe I'm going to be able to drive again. I was going to bed on Tuesday when I got a message asking if I was available this weekend. It's been a bit crazy since then, but I'm determined to be as competitive as possible. »

Files has the advantage of knowing the car well and has never driven the Goodyear tires in the WTCR. “I drove a Clio cup in Aragon seven years ago so I know the track a little and fortunately I found on-board cameras. I also did a bit of simulator work to remind myself of the characteristics of the track. »

Three races are planned this weekend in Aragon.
