South Korea replaces Suzuka on 2020 WTCR calendar

The World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) will continue in 2020. The competition promoted by Eurosport Events will have 10 rounds between April and December, as in 2019.

Already announced, the arrival of Motorland Aragon circuit (Spain) will be closed at the beginning of July. Temperatures are expected to be high in this quasi-desert region of the country.

But the real novelty of this calendar is the replacement of Suzuka (Japan) with an excursion to the little-known Inje Speedium (South Korea) at the end of the season. “There is a difference in altitude, it looks like a mini-Mugello, explained Gabriele Tarquini (Hyundai). When I drove there, it was difficult to find the right line and that made it a great challenge. This will be well suited to our category. »

Francois Ribeiro, the boss of Eurosport Events, does not completely forget Suzuka. “Once again, we have included four events in Asia to highlight the importance of this region of the world in the WTCR.

Our long-standing partnership with Mobilityland, the local promoter at Suzuka, remains firmly in place to bring another of our championships there in the future. » The latest arrival of the WTCR in Japan resulted in three unspectacular races because they were contested on the small "East" version of Suzuka (the equivalent of Sector 1 in F1).

The campaign will start in Marrakech (Morocco) and end in Sepang (Malaysia). The meetings at the Nürburgring (Germany), Slovakia Ring (Slovakia), Vila Real (Portugal) and Ningbo (China) will be brought forward compared to 2019.

WTCR 2020 Calendar:

April 3-5: Marrakech (Morocco)

April 24-26: Hungaroring (Hungary)

May 20-23: Nürburgring Nordschleife (Germany)

June 5-7: Slovakia Ring (Slovakia)

June 19-21: Vila Real (Portugal)

July 3-5: Motorland Aragon (Spain)

September 4-6: Ningbo (China)

October 16-18: Inje Speedium (South Korea)

November 19-22: Macau

December 10-13: Sepang (Malaysia)
