ETCR promoter throws in the towel

The doubt had been present for many months. Following the disappearance of the WTCR, the touring car world cup organized by Discovery Sport Events, rumors weighed on the possible organization of the ETCR in 2023. Despite the optimism of various stakeholders, the promoter of The Electric Series has announced that it will not promote ETCR this season, which could mark the demise of the championship.

Depuis la fin du WTCR, le manque de communication sur l’ETCR donnait quelques indices sur le futur plus qu’incertain du championnat électrique de tourisme. Si aucun calendrier n’avait été annoncé, certains constructeurs étaient en cours de préparation pour la saison 2023. C’était le cas pour Hyundai qui avait confirmé, via son pilote officiel Mikel Azcona, qu’une nouvelle voiture était en développement. 

In its press release, Discovery Sport Events explains that “despite the efforts made by all parties to finalize the new sporting and regulatory framework which meets the needs of manufacturers, the necessary conditions could not be implemented satisfactorily before the launch of a full season. »

At this point, it is still not very clear whether ETCR will disappear or not. But according to the home page of the championship website, difficult to see the electric series surviving…
