The TCR will have its electric version in 2020

A fine businessman, the creator of the TCR product Marcello Lotti held a press conference on Sunday in Barcelona (Spain) to give news on his new baby, the ETCR. E, for Electric, of course.

The touring championship, reserved for cars with electric motors, was unveiled in spring 2018, without giving a precise date for the launch of the competition. The president of WSC (promoter of the TCR) has promised that sedan brawls without noise will be for 2020.

“WSC looked at this ambitious project two years ago, indicates Marcello Lotti. Our goal is to educate the world of motorsport by linking them to this new technology, which represents the future. » No details, however, regarding the calendar or the format of the races.

For now, only the Cupra brand has publicly shown interest by ETCR. Seat's sporting arm worked together with WSC to establish the technical foundations of the championship.

Present in the Barcelona paddock on the sidelines of the TCR Europe final, the Cupra e-Racer has a continuous power of 300 kW, with an announced peak of 500 kW (i.e. 408 and 680 horsepower), only delivered to the rear axle. 0 to 100 km/h is reached in 3,2 seconds.
