WTCR cancels Nürburgring meeting

The WTCR will not visit the Nordschleife Nürburgring for the first time since 2015 (when the WTCC was still in force). Eurosport Events found itself faced with an insoluble dilemma, the double clock tower of the Green Hell being postponed until September while the TCR world grid will be in Asia for the rounds of Ningbo (September 5-6) and Inje (October 17-18).

In order to maintain a 20-race calendar despite the coronavirus epidemic, with weekends only consisting of 2 events from this year, the WTCR plans to add a qualifying session and a race in Vila Real ( June 19-21) and at the Salzburgring (July 24-26). The races planned for the Hungaroring were ultimately canceled and postponed to the Motorland Aragon meeting (July 3-5).

“We completely respect the decision of ADAC Nordhein to postpone the 24 Hours of Nürburgring with the measures taken by the German government in these difficult times, comments François Ribeiro, director of Eurosport Events. ADAC Nordhein has been our partner in Germany since 2015 and we will do everything possible to see WTCR return to this legendary circuit. »

The WTCR could yet again revise its calendar as Slovakia has closed its borders and the season is due to start on the weekend of June 7 at the Slovakiaring. The 2020 calendar already only has 8 meetings left.
