Absent from the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) since the season opened in Marrakech (Morocco) at the beginning of April, Tiago monteiro was hoping to get back behind the wheel of his Honda Civic Type-R for the Vila Real meeting in Portugal (June 23-24).
This will not be the case, since the 2016 WTCC runner-up still has to observe a rest period, nine months after his serious accident during private testing in Barcelona (Spain). “I have done everything to be ready for this appointment which is dear to me, but it is medically too early”, announces the Portuguese.
“It is crucial that my recovery is 100% in all respects. In truth, a nine-month recovery can be very short for some injuries. I'm close, but you still have to be patient and tell yourself that this patience will be rewarded and that I will come back stronger."He says.
Tiago Monteiro will give his advice to the youngster Benjamin Lessennes (18 years old), who has replaced him since the start of the year within Boutsen Ginion Racing. The Belgian has two top 5s and a 16th place in the general classification (36 points).
