Rob Huff wins his second race of 2022

Just before the start of the race, Rob Huff told us with a smile on his face: “I'm a racer, trust me I have my plan I know what to do.” The 2012 WTCC world champion had a plan which he executed perfectly. From the green lights, the Cupra driver took advantage of his best start to steal first place from poleman Mehdi Bennani (Audi) who could only see the damage. Cleverly, he moves into the wake of Huff's white car. They are closely followed by Norbert Michelisz (Hyundai). A little further on, Mikel Azcona (Hyundai) got off to a good start from 8th place on the grid. He managed to quickly move up to 5th place in the wake of Gilles Magnus. The two men will spice up a race 2 which would have been very dull without the fight between the Belgian and the Hyundai driver.

After exchanging blows from the wheels, bumpers and doors, the Spaniard managed to gain the upper hand over the Audi driver. Azcona is fourth behind his teammate Michelisz who offers him his place on the podium of this race 2 on a plate. It's a great operation for Azcona especially as Nestor Girolami (2nd overall) is stuck behind Guerrieri and Coronel in 9th position. On the last lap, a somewhat kamikaze attack from his teammate on the Dutchman's Audi allowed Bebu to pocket the points for 7th place. He remains hopeful of fighting until the end of the championship against Azcona. Note the beautiful 6th place of Tiago Monteiro who is starting to see a little light at the end of the tunnel.

Rob Huff ends the season with a bang

The young Hyundai driver is doing well this weekend in Alsace. A royal road opens before him for the end of the World Cup. He has a 35-point lead over Girolami and 54 over Rob Huff. “Huffy” ends the season with a bang, the Englishman signs his 5th podium in 9 races. He seems well on his way to winning the independent trophy. For the general classification, he will have to be wary of Gilles Magnus who is 22 points behind the Briton. In the team standings: Hyundai BRC leads Münnich Motorsport by 57 points. The next WTCR meeting is not yet known. If the dates have been validated by the FIA Tourism Commission, the world council must still give its agreement next week. The two chosen destinations should be known in the coming days. See you in November for the continuation and end of WTCR 2022.
