Tom Coronel: “Delighted to be leaving for a season”

So you'll never stop?

I usually say that WTCR means World of Tom Coronel. It worked out well with my partners during confinement, I had the time to explain to them the philosophy of the project that is ours with Comtoyou and I am therefore delighted to be leaving for another season.

With the team, how did the discussions go?

The team told me that I was the ideal client because I didn't have many requirements. So I discussed with François Verbist (main team. Editor's note) to find out if we were going to go with the old or the new model. But Audi finally decided to launch the new RS3 on the track. However, we will have to run it in camouflage mode during the first two races, as long as the production model has not yet been presented.

Did you ride in the car?

I only did four short laps at the end of a day of tire testing at Mugello. I had good feelings behind the wheel. It seems easier to drive and I had good feedback on the controls and in the braking zones. This means that we will certainly be able to get the most out of it this season.

What are the ambitions for 2021?

It's a new car that still needs to be developed. I don't want to anticipate anything or get excited prematurely, because I have everything to discover about this new model. We made the decision to ride with the new model very late. Time is running out, we must not delay any longer. We then have joint tests with the other teams, because we all want to measure ourselves together.
