WTCR – Coronel moves to Boutsen Ginion Racing

End of the WTCC throughout the history of the championship (Independent champion in 2006 and 2009) Tom Coronel has succumbed to the sirens of the WTCR, the World Touring Car Cup regulated by the TCR for the 2018 season.

The 45-year-old Dutchman, recently entered with a Chevrolet Cruze in TC1, moves into the Honda fold and opts for the new Civic Type R in the Boutsen Ginion Racing team. “A lot of people know that I have been hoping for this change for 2 years. The WTCR is the worthy successor to the WTCC, in which I participated for many years, but where, in recent times, I was sportingly limited to filling the starting grids. Now it's a whole new challenge, with equivalent equipment for everyone, on circuits all over the world and for me an ideal position in the brand new Honda Civic", explains the jovial pilot.

Tom Coronel will team up with Tiago Monteiro, the Portuguese being back on his feet after his painful accident during testing in September. A fast teammate who is likely to push him to his limits. That’s good, Tom Coronel is ambitious. “I am confident and looking forward to working with Tiago Monteiro who will obviously bring a lot of his experience. It is undoubtedly the best package I have had at my disposal for 10 years. I am therefore betting on at least equaling the number of trophies I have won over the last five years in the WTCC this season alone. (four victories, nine podiums). »
