WTCR – All 26 grid places will be filled in 2018

For its first season replacing the WTCC, the WTCR is already enjoying digital success, since Eurosport Events, promoter of the series, confirmed this Wednesday that the 26 full-time places planned on the 2018 grid would all be filled.

When the FIA announced the move to TCR regulations instead of the TC1 seen in the WTCC, the number of 26 cars was set as the maximum limit.

The deadline was set for January 30 and the first confirmations of the program, notably at Comtoyou Racing, (Denis Dupont and Aurélien Panis) BRC (Gabriele Tarquini and Norbert Michelisz) or Boutsen Ginion have appeared in recent weeks.

“While we only had two months to put the grid in place and during a period when most companies' budgets were already locked in for 2018, Eurosport Events and the FIA had a clear objective of targeting quality over competition. quantity, comments François Ribeiro, head of Eurosport Events.

We are therefore pleased that the WTCR offers a grid of very high sporting quality to touring car fans around the world. The best of the WTCC and TCR International Series combined, with a mix of touring car champions.

We will now work to complete the two invitations available at each of the ten WTCR events, thereby generating further interest in the series and the promotion of domestic talent. »
