WTCR – Tiago Monteiro back behind the wheel at Monza

Tiago monteiro can smile after his ten laps completed yesterday at the Monza Autodromo in Italy, during a test session with the Honda Civic TCR developed by JAS Motorsport.

The Portuguese has rediscovered the sensations of the track, five months after his serious accident during testing in Barcelona with Honda (as part of the WTCC), which left him with a serious neck injury.

Confirmed to drive one of the two Honda Civic TCRs operated by Boutsen Ginion Racing in WTCR this season, Monteiro admits to not having felt any particular discomfort about his return to the wheel.

“I was a little cautious with the vibrators at first, but I didn't have any problems with my neck or shoulders, so the training I did worked, specifies the former pilot F1.

The plan today was just to see how comfortable I was in the car and what areas I need to continue to work on physically. I think there are still areas that still need improvement, but it's only a matter of time before I'm 100%. »

Monteiro will play alongside Tom Coronel in the Belgian structure and is one of the twenty-six drivers confirmed for the year for the first season of the WTCR, which replaces the WTCC using the TCR technical regulations developed by Marcello Lotti.
