Winner at Adria, Ehrlacher gets closer to the title

The young Frenchman is heading inexorably towards his second title in the World Touring Car Cup. During this Italian weekend, the penultimate round of the 2021 season, the 2020 champion once again demonstrated great maturity by playing placed and winning his second race of the season. Jean-Karl Vernay, victim of a collision, seems to have said goodbye to his title chances this year.

Ehrlacher wins his second race of the year.

In the second round of the transalpine weekend, the No. 68 driver started from pole position, leaving no possibility for Fred Vervisch (No. 3 Audi RS22) to take this place at the start. He took the lead at the first corner, a position he would maintain throughout the 17 laps of the race. Behind, JK Vernay's affairs are going sour, in the first sector the Lyonnais cannot avoid contact with the Civic of Nestor Girolami. The damage to Vernay's car was such that it forced him to retire in the first third of the race. Vernay deplores a disastrous qualifying which placed him in the soft underbelly of the peloton. “It’s always in these places that you risk a lot, it didn’t fail, it’s a real disaster and a huge waste. » says Vernay, disappointed.

At the front and behind Ehrlacher, on another planet, we find the fight between the two Audi drivers Vervisch and Gilles Magnus (Audi RS2 No. 3). The two Comtoyou drivers crossed the finish line in this order allowing Fred Vervisch to keep his hopes alive

of living titles. He is 35 lengths behind the French leader and a small point ahead of Guerrieri 6th in race 2. Gilles Magnus for his part takes the Junior title, he is the first winner of the 2021 season in WTCR.

Tarquini, farewell to his family.

The other hero of the day was obviously Gabriele Tarquini. The future retiree competed in his last national race in a world event. The Italian showed very good remains and gave a lot of regret to his many fans. The veteran finished the first race, 10th. The second round, he finished in the exhausts of Yvan Muller in 5th position. There are only two races left for Tarquini before enjoying a well-deserved rest, it will be in Sochi (Russia) on November 27 and 28.
