WTCR – 2022 calendar presented with 10 events

It's a real return to normal with these 10 rounds in the four corners (or almost) of the planet; These are two more than this year, a sign that optimism is required. The WTCR will begin on April 9 and 10 with a destination discovered this year: the Most autodrome in the Czech Republic. As we announced to you a few weeks ago, the streets of Pau will once again welcome World Cup competitors on its traditional date of May 7 and 8, a first since 2009 (the WTCC was then one of the main events). It is then a tunnel of traditional destinations, Nürburgring May 27-28, Hungaroring June 11-12 (the same weekend as the 24 hours of Le Mans !!), Motorland Aragon on June 25 and 26 followed a week later by the second urban route of the season in Vila Real in Portugal (July 2-3). Sochi will be the last round before the summer break on August 6 and 7, 2022. 

The debates resume in October with Korea and the Inje Speedium on the 8th and 9th of the month. China will then be on the program on November 5 and 6 on the spectacular Ningbo route. The season is expected to traditionally conclude on the streets of Macau from November 18 to 20, 2022.

Optimistic promoters of a return to normal 

Francois Ribeiro, the boss of Eurosport Events, welcomes this calendar which according to him: “ presents new challenges and opportunities and provides more reasons to be positive as we step up preparations for the fifth WTCR season.” As last year, emergency solutions are being considered in the event of a worsening of the health situation but also if the quarantine rules remain too draconian to allow travel to Asia.

Let us hope that the WTCR, but also all the championships, return to their usual cruising speed. This 10-date calendar appears to be the right way forward for the World Touring Car Cup.
