We must not forget that El Pinar is located on the Atlantic coast to the south of Uruguay. It is therefore in the middle of winter that the 5th round of the TCR World Tour takes place. The weather conditions during the qualifying session were dire. It was on a wet track that the 25 competitors of the second South American event on the calendar set off. On a tricky track with precarious grip, the Alsatian benefited from his driving skills on ice to master his Lynk & Co 01. The Frenchman, third in the championship, no longer has much choice if he wants to move up on the current leader, Norbert Michelisz (Hyundai Motorsport). The latter manages to control his lead overall by setting the 3rd time. He pocketed 8 additional points and retained the lead in the World Cup ahead of Esteban Guerrieri (Volcano Motorsport) and the tricolor. Ehrlacher will have a lot to do because on the front row, he will start this evening alongside Mikel Azcona, Michelisz's teammate for the Korean manufacturer. The poleman will have the Hyundai trio hot on his heels since Nestor Girolami is 4th in this qualification. The second Cyan Racing driver is Thed Bjork 5th in the session.

It will take a strong Ehrlacher to contain the enthusiasm of the Hyundai Elantra drivers. The first race of the Uruguayan round takes place this afternoon from 15 p.m. French time. 10th in the first part of qualifying, the Chinese Qing Hua Ma (Lynk & Co) will start on pole for race 2, the start of which will be given around 20:15 p.m. this evening.
