An unexpected new broadcaster for the BTCC

TOCA, organizer of the British Touring Car Championship, announced this Wednesday March 27 a new broadcast agreement for its 2024 season. Each race of the British championship will thus be broadcast live and in full on the social network TikTok, via the ITV Sport channel.

This will be the very first time that a sporting competition will be broadcast live via TikTok. Since its launch in 2016, TikTok has become one of the most popular online platforms in the world, now reaching over 45 billion active monthly users worldwide, with approximately 18% in the 34- XNUMX years old.

This agreement is in addition to the existing contract between the British touring championship and the ITV Sport network for broadcasting across the Channel.

« This is a truly revolutionary move for the BTCC, rejoices Alan Gow, Managing Director of the BTCC. I am incredibly proud that we are the first major motorsport championship in the world to broadcast its entire racing season live on TikTok. It's the real 'icing on the cake' of our extensive and ongoing UK coverage, which is live and free on ITV4 and ITVX.

Most importantly, this deal will introduce the BTCC to a new and completely different demographic – a younger, more diverse audience – which is exactly what we, and indeed all of motorsport, are seeking to achieve. This is huge news for the BTCC, our teams and our partners as we cement the future of the UK’s most prestigious motorsport championship. »

This means that for the first time in its history, the discipline will be visible around the world. It remains to be seen whether Internet users will have to watch the races vertically, the usual format for TikTok.

The 2024 BTCC comprises 30 races spread over 10 race weekends, with the season opener taking place at Donington Park on April 27-28.
