Already victorious on Saturday on the Ricardo Tormo circuit from Valencia (Spain), Ander Vilariño (Racing Engineering) did it again this Sunday April 14. Aboard his Ford Mustang, the 39-year-old Spaniard led Race 2 of the Elite 2 category from start to finish.
The event was marked by a big accident in the peloton at the start. Debutante Ellen Lohr (Dexwet-Df1 Racing, former driver in DTM and in the European Truck Championship) and Maurio Trione (Caal Racing) hit the rail hard but escaped unscathed.
“It was my team's first weekend in Nascar Whelen Euro Series, specifies the Basque Ander Vilariño. She did an impeccable job. I didn't expect at all to win a race in front of my home crowd, but the car was perfect. »
The Belgian Stienes Longin (PK Carsport) recorded another second place. He is in second place in the general classification, 10 points behind the leader. His compatriot Loris Hezemans (Hendricks Motorsport) completes the podium in Race 2, to the detriment of outgoing champion Alon Day (Caal Racing, 4th).
Newcomer Jacques Villeneuve (Go Fas Racing) was forced to retire due to a technical problem. The Canadian could claim a finish in the top 10.
The next round of the Nascar Whelen Euro Series will take place on the Franciacorta circuit (Italy), on May 11 and 12.
