Volkswagen presents the electric Golf R concept

Volkswagen presents on the sidelines of the GP Ice Race meeting in Austria (February 1-2) a car which could benefit from a future in competition. The e-performance Golf R is a electric car with four-wheel drive technology.

Visually, the bodywork is very likely taken from the Golf GTI TCR, seen in particular in the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) and in the TCR-badged series since 2016.

Volkswagen Motorsport remains secretive about the future and the purpose of this concept, except that it serves “ Ambassador” for future vehicles in the Volkswagen R range.

The indications indicatinga first step towards a presence in ETCR, the 100% electric TCR championship managed by Eurosport Events (like the WTCR) are reinforced by the announcement at the end of 2019 of the end of thermal programs in motorsport. From now on, it will be electric or nothing. Wait and see.
