Walkenhorst to represent BMW in IGTC in 2019

It seems that last July's success at the 24 Hours of Spa, the summit of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, gave ideas to Bmw motorsport. The German brand confirmed this Friday its full commitment to the SRO Motorsports intercontinental series in 2019, notably via the Walkenhorst Motorsport.

Henry Walkenhorst's team, which defied all odds in Belgium last summer to achieve a historic victory, will be one of BMW's bridgeheads in IGTC, via at least the operation of an M6 GT3. A second car remains under study.

As for the drivers, the residents of Walkenhorst Motorsport have yet to be formalized but BMW has indicated that Augusto Farfus and Martin Tomczyk will be part of another crew fielded by a team to be determined.

This announcement in any case allows the Intercontinental GT Challenge to count on an additional manufacturer from next year, after having seen Audi, Bentley, Mercedes, Porsche et McLaren compete for the 2018 laurels.

Nürburgring and Macau still on the menu

If the Blancpain GT Series and the IGTC remain major programs in GT3, for any German brand, shining at the Nürburgring on the double clock tour in the Green Hell remains an obligation.

BMW Motorsport will be back in 2019 on the Nordschleife, Munich following a success at home since 2010. ROWE Racing, a big regular at the Nürburgring and winner at Spa in 2016, will be one of the structures supported by BMW, with the house drivers Tom Blomqvist, Nick Catsburg, Connor De Phillippi, John Edwards, Philipp Eng, Jesse Krohn, Marco Wittmann and Nick Yelloly.

Augusto Farfus, Martin Tomczyk and Timo Scheider will be present in other teams. Falken Motorsport and Walkenhorst Motorsport have also confirmed customer cars for the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

The German firm also intends to defend its title acquired last November at the FIA GT World Cup in Macau, where Augusto Farfus offered a final victory to Charly Lamm, boss of Team Schnitzer.
