World Challenge America – Vilander and Molina win in C2 in Texas

Ferrari did not miss its debut in Blancpain GT World Challenge America in Austin, Texas. Third in race 1, Toni Vilander and Miguel Molina won the second confrontation on the COTA at the wheel of their Ferrari 488 GT3 n°61, entered under the R.Ferri banner.

Third on the grid, Toni Vilander successively got rid of Maxi Buhk (Mercedes-AMG GT3 n°71 – P1 Motorsports), then pole sitter Kyle Marcelli (Acura NSX GT3 n°80 – Racers Edge Motorsports) at the very start of the event to build up a solid lead.

Behind the leading Ferrari, the K-Pax Racing team, author of the double on Saturday in race 1, will return to the front with the No. 3 Bentley Continental GT9 of Andy Soucek and Alvaro Parente, but which remains a good distance from the leaders after the change of drivers.

The end of the race will, however, offer real suspense for the victory to be awarded, the peloton being regrouped following the intervention of the safety car less than 20′ from the checkerboard, after two cars stopped at the side of the track .

Enough to regroup Molina and Soucek at the restart 9′ from the finish, a procedure where the Spanish Bentley driver will take the best time over his compatriot when braking for the first turn. Molina, however, will regain his position in the first sector and race towards victory in front of Soucek.

The podium is completed by the Porsche 911 GT3 R n°58 – Wright Motorsports de Patrick Long, associé à Scott Hargrove, Long ayant pris l’avantage sur la seconde Bentley Continental GT3 n°3 – K-Pax Racing de Rodrigo Baptista au restart.

In Pro-Am, the Marcelli – Barkey duo won while in Am, Squadra Corse scored a double with the No. 488 Ferrari 3 GT7 of Bacarella – Fuentes.
