WTCC – Tom Coronel and BMW’s turn on the Slovakia Ring

After Honda, it?s BMW's turn to shine in Slovakia. Tom Coronel and his 320 TC win the second and final race counting for the World Touring Championship (WTCC). If the first podium of the day had been monopolized by the Honda Civic, the second is more diversified with three different brands since behind the Dutch driver we find the Chevrolet Cruze 1,6T of Yvan Muller and the Honda Civic of Gabriele Tarquini, winner one hour earlier.

By starting from first place, after the grid inversion which occurs for the first 10 of Q2, Tom Coronel only had to ensure his start and fly to victory. Just like in the first round, most of the fights focused on second place, with sometimes very muscular battles, notably between Muller and his two rivals from Honda, Tarquini and Monteiro.

By finishing ahead of the Italian, the Alsatian regains some air at the top of the Drivers' ranking even if from an accounting point of view the 2009 world champion performs better over the entire weekend. Yvan Muller leads with 120 points while Gabriele Tarquini is closer, with 96 points. Third with 57 points, Michel Nykjaer is already far away.
