While Honda delighted with Tiago Monteiro's success in Race 2 at Buriram (Thailand), the Portuguese was excluded for a non-compliant ride height on his Civic WTCC. Sebastien Loeb (Citroën) thus wins its fourth victory of the season by winning in front of his teammate Ma Qing Hua, while Mehdi Bennani offers a new 100% Citroën podium to the French manufacturer.
The nine-time world champion WRC thus takes second place in the Championship with five points ahead of his teammate Yvan Muller who suffered a double retirement on the Thai circuit. Tiago Monteiro drops to seventh place, one point behind Norbert Michelisz.
Honda appealed the stewards' decision. “Tiago deserves this victory and we are appealing because this infringement results from damage from his accident during the first race. This was not a willful misinterpretation of the rules”, commented Alessandro Mariani, Team Principal of the Honda team.
