WTCC – Hard to stay motivated for Muller

If José Maria Lopez continues to dominate the WTCC, with 105 points ahead of his closest pursuers Mehdi Bennani (Citroën) and Nicky Catsburg (Lada), his teammate Yvan Muller is still on the hunt for a first victory this season. The four-time world champion only occupies fifth place in the Championship, 114 points behind the Argentinian.

“There are no particular reasons for that. I lack a little performance and also a little luck at certain times, confided the Citroën driver at a press conference. It's a combination of different things. Unfortunately, victory has not yet come this year. This is the first season where I've had to wait this long to establish myself and I hope I won't have to wait much longer. »

“I have always been fighting for the title for ten years in the WTCC. Obviously, my title chances are now zero. It's a little more complicated to stay motivated, but it's part of my job. I have to give my best for Citroën and that’s why I stay motivated, that’s what I’m paid for”, added Yvan Muller.

The Frenchman will have the opportunity to unlock his counter this weekend with the round of Vila Real (Portugal) which Citroën dominated in 2015.

“This kind of circuit suits Citroën well and the other cars will have ballast, underlined Yvan Muller. We remain at 80 kg, but Lada has 70 and Honda 60. So the weight penalty will not be against us this weekend. I hope this helps us”, added the Alsatian.
