WTCC – Honda would like to compete on equal terms with Citroën

Honda Europe sporting director William de Braekeleer hopes that Citroën will remain involved in the WTCC in 2017 to be able to fight regularly against the French firm.

WTCC – Honda would like to compete on equal terms with Citroën

In 2016, the stable Citroën Racing will once again be aligned on the fronts of the WRC and the WTCC. By 2017, however, the herringbone firm should make a choice regarding its sports program. A potential withdrawal from the World Touring Car Championship which would leave a bitter taste for Honda, if the Japanese brand were to continue its commitment.

“We have been in this championship for four years now. We were delighted with the arrival of Citroën, and we also agreed to anticipate the advent of the TC1 regulation by one year, precisely to allow their arrival, precise Williams from Braekeleer, sporting director of Honda Europe on the sidelines of the Motegi meeting.

Did we sacrifice ourselves a little in that way? But it was for the good of the championship. And for the sake of the championship, it would obviously be a shame if Citroën left. Especially if this time we have the time to develop a car like they did, we would like to compete on equal terms, and beat them fairly. »

The Belgian also recalled that the decision regarding Honda's entry in 2017 had not yet been made.
