WTCC – José Maria Lopez on pole on home soil

Imperial since the start of the day on the Termas de Rio Hondo route, Stephen Guerrieri, lined up in a Campos Racing Chevrolet Cruze, had the cards in hand to take pole position for his first laps in the WTCC.

Driving a car lighter than those of his rivals, the Argentine driver quickly took the lead in Q1, as he did in free practice earlier this Saturday. A first qualifying part which did not, however, succeed for the Lada Vesta of Tarquini, Catsburg and Valente, all three eliminated during this Q1.

Outstripped by Jose Maria Lopez At the end of Q2, Guerrieri seemed able to worry the Citroën C-Elysée of his compatriot and Yvan muller in Q3. The Alsatian was unable to get the better of Norbert Michelisz's Honda Civic and Tom Coronel's Chevrolet Cruze, after an error in his last sector, and had to resort to observing the duel between Argentinians from a distance.

Guerrieri was the first to take to the track, but a disagreement between the WTCC novice and his pit placed him under investigation for failing to respect the lights at the pit lane exit. An error all the more culpable as the Campos Racing driver was faster than José Maria Lopez on the track.

The stewards logically canceled Guerrieri's time, offering pole position to José Maria Lopez for the main race. 10th in qualifying, Frenchman John Filippi (Chevrolet Cruze – Campos Racing) will start on pole for the opening race.
