The announcement came this morning: Michel Vaillant is arriving in the WTCC for the Portugal race at Portimao which will take place on Sunday June 3. The comic book character imagined in 1957 by Jean Graton will come to life thanks to Alain Menu who will play the role of the legendary pilot. “We worked with the entire technical team to change all the elements: the suit, the helmet, the mechanics' outfits, the transport truck”, explains Eric Nève, Chevrolet Europe motorsport director. “We want to promote this championship because we know that the comic book will remain in the library of lovers of the series. »
The WTCC was chosen as a support for the new adventures of Michel Vaillant who will return in November 2012 after five years of absence. Philippe Graton, who now presides over the path of the series produced by his father, looks back on the reasons which motivated his choice. “Michel Vaillant has always evolved between fiction and reality. Most drivers said they wouldn't be surprised to see him appear on a starting grid. Well, that will be the case on June 3! The Portimao event makes sense, it symbolizes the very strong link between Michel Vaillant and the real world of motorsport. I wanted a new start for Michel Vaillant. The WTCC is perfect because it is based on neck-to-neck races, very tight, short, very physical, in short a real “big challenge” to start your new adventures. »
