Tiago Monteiro won WTCC qualifying in Marrakech. Yann Ehrlacher will start on pole for the first race.

WTCC – Monteiro takes pole in Marrakech

Tiago Monteiro (Honda) won WTCC qualifying in Marrakech (Morocco) which kicks off the 2017 season. The Portuguese completed a lap in 1'21''792 in Q3 and was more than 2 tenths ahead of Néstor's Volvo S60 Girolami who will start alongside him on the front row in the main race.

Norbert Michelisz (Honda) failed just 6 hundredths behind the Polestar Cyan Racing driver and will share the second row of the second race with Rob Huff (Citroën). Mehdi Bennani’s C-Elysée WTCC completes the top five.

Yann Ehrlacher on C1 pole

Yann Ehrlacher (Lada) will start on pole for Race 1 where the first ten positions in Q2 are reversed. Yvan Muller's nephew will start in front of Ryo Michigami's Honda, while Tom Chilton (Citroën) and Thed Björk (Volvo) will share the second row, preceding Nicky Castburg (Volvo).

Aurélien Panis (Honda) set the last time of Q1. The rookie will start behind his compatriot John Filippi (Citroën).

Volvo wins the MAC3

Volvo scored its first victory in the MAC3 by achieving an average time of 2'51''926 with Néstor Girolami, Nicky Catsburg and Thed Björk. The Honda drivers failed by more than 7 tenths.

The start of Race 1 will take place this Sunday, April 9 from 17:35 p.m. while the second event will take place from 18:45 p.m. (French time). The events will be broadcast on Eurosport.
