WTCC – Volvo confirms its return with the S60

Volvo has finally lifted the veil on its S60 WTCC, which has been awaited for many months. The Scandinavian manufacturer will return in 2016 by entering two cars after having been present in the World Touring Car Championship in the past with the C30 model until 2013 and the transition to the TC1. Polestar Cyan Racing will be in charge of this commitment, the structure having returned to Volvo control last month.

The S60 TC1 will be powered by a four-cylinder engine based on Volvo's Drive-E technology and will be capable of developing 400hp.

“We chose the WTCC as our competition platform because it allows us to showcase the technology present within our cars in exciting races contested around the world”, commented Niels Müller, director of Polestar. “This Championship will allow us to develop our technologies and use these circuit developments in our products. »

Volvo will thus be the fifth manufacturer entered in the WTCC in 2016 since the S60 TC1 will join the Citroën C-Elysée, the Lada Vesta, the Honda Civic and the Chevrolet Cruze RML. The Swedish brand has not yet announced its drivers. But reigning STCC (Scandinavian Touring Car Championship) champion Thed Björk, three-time STCC champion Fredrik Ekblom and multiple STCC winner Robert Dahlgren are all involved in the development of the Volvo S60 TC1.
