WTCR – At Pau-Arnos, Guerrieri aims to continue his momentum

From the top of his two podiums in Most (Czech Republic) 7 days ago, Esteban Guerrieri arrives in Pau-Arnos as one of the big favorites for victory. New runner-up to Yann Ehrlacher in the general classification, the Buenos Aires native wants to use this momentum to continue his journey towards his first WTCR crown.

“I’m very happy with the result of the weekend in Most,” he recalls. I needed a weekend like this to score big points and make a jump in the general classification. My confidence was already high before and it still is. It's not a question of results other than having a good approach and working well with the team and the car. We will try to give everything. »

A novice at Pau-Arnos like most of his comrades, Esteban Guerrieri expects a weekend similar to that experienced in the Czech Republic but also perilous due to the characteristics of the route in Pau.

“Last weekend in Most it was very close. In qualifying, by losing 2 tenths you could go from 1st to 11th place. It was crazy, points out the Argentinian. I think it will be the same here. We'll see what the bitumen is like as well. At first glance it seems abrasive. There will probably be a lot of damage to the tires but also rubber deposits outside the trajectory. You will have to demonstrate great precision.

I took a look at the circuit from the pit wall and was surprised by the first chicane. It seems more difficult than I thought or what I was able to do in the simulator. This is already a first challenge which will require us to work a lot. There is then a lot of braking when entering a corner but also when going uphill or downhill. We can also see that the track is bumpy and winding. A lot of things we need to understand in two free practice sessions. »

Focused on his weekend in Pau-Arnos, Esteban Guerrieri hopes to perform well to achieve his first objective: “A Top 10 in qualifying”. And then ? The race will tell us.
