WTCR – Honda should be present with the new Civic Type R

Developed at the end of last year by the Italian structure JAS Motorsport with Roberto Colciago, the new Honda Civic Type R made its racing debut at the 24 Hours of Dubai on January 12 and 13. An endurance test for a TCR (sprint race) type vehicle is surprising at first glance.

TCR project manager for JAS Motorsport, Mads Fischer, explains his team's strategy. “We had planned to take our visit to Dubai as a big test session. We didn't have any specific goals in mind other than to see how the car performed in racing conditions. In the end, it was extremely useful. Among the positive points, the top speed is in line with our expectations, despite adjustments to the Balance of Performance, which made the Civic heavier. » Forced to retire six hours from the end due to radiator problems (clogged due to debris on the track), the Honda set the sixth best time in the TCR class in the Middle East, out of 15 cars entered.

“We collected more data in one weekend than in an entire sprint racing season. We know where to improve the car for our customers”, continues Mads Fischer. Currently, 25 models are built in the workshops in Milan (Italy). Unveiled to the public in October 2017, the Civic Type R should replace the old version, runner-up in the TCR International Series in the hands of Attila Tassi last year. “The car has completed 2 kilometers of private testing. We hope to see several examples competing in the new WTCR championship (the World Touring Car Cup, merged with the WTCC and the TCR International Series) in early 800."

The WTCR season will begin in Marrakech (Morocco) on April 7 and 8.
