WTCR: Michelisz wins race 2, Azcona 5 points from the title.

Nestor Girolami (Honda) will have the merit of saying that he will take the fight for the world crown to Saudi Arabia, location of the last meeting in the history of the World Touring Car Cup.

By finishing 9th in this round, the Argentinian remained below the 65 points that Mikel Azcona would have needed to be crowned this weekend in Bahrain.

Driving a Civic Type R TCR 75 kg heavier than the competition, “Bebu” suffered. 9th behind Mehdi Bennani, the Argentinian is now 60 lengths behind the Spaniard Hyundai Motorsport. In all likelihood, the driver of the Elantra, bearing the No. 96, should close the championship in the first race in Saudi Arabia.

This Saturday morning, Norbert Michelisz was ahead of Esteban Guerrieri, who still resisted during the first 10 minutes of the race. However, he could do nothing against the Hungarian's attack for first place. Guerrieri returns to a podium after a long period of drought.

Third in the race, guest Nicky Catsburg fulfilled his role perfectly for Hyundai motorsport. He is ahead of Azcona and Berthon. The Dutchman being transparent for the points, the Spaniard scores the points for 3rd place.

The Bahrain meeting was not the most lively on the track. Note the difficulties of Gilles Magnus (Audi). The Belgian had already retired due to contact in race 1. He also gave up in race 2 after causing chaos at the 4th turn. His RS3, in distress, collided head-on with his teammate Bennani who was very lucky to be able to continue his race. It's a very unfortunate end to the season for Magnus who will have to make up for it in Jeddah in 3 weeks.

There are only two races left before a competition monument disappears: from the WTCC to the WTCR, 16 years of world tourism will end at the end of November in the Middle East.
