Xavi Serra: “Any new form of competition with an electric engine interests us”

First of all, how did the recent Leon E-Racer tests go?

I have just returned from MotorLand (Spain. Editor's note) where the first run of our electric León took place. It's always a special moment to bring a new project to the circuit for the first time. These were very constructive tests. From the first day, we managed to cover the planned distance without the slightest problem. On the second day, we encountered some problems inherent to any new car, but overall, we are satisfied. We look forward to spending even more time testing.

Was this really the first time you tested all the elements of the car?

Our first prototype was released two years ago. We had developed our own system, based on the platform of our production model. The regulations have evolved since then and it was indeed the first time that we came with the new complete package, compliant with the regulations and already more efficient than the old one.

What was the feedback from your pilots?

The goal was not to set a time. We are in a phase of calibration and integration of components. A driver will always, first of all, work to find out if his car has potential. He doesn't worry about electronics or the planned work plan, which is pretty normal. So I let Jordi (Gené official Cupra driver. Editor's note) make these kinds of remarks to me when he makes his first outing on the track. Then we then focus on our testing schedule. His first feedback was very encouraging: “Xavi, we have really taken a good step forward,” he told me. We really have a very solid foundation for the future. »
