Yvan Muller: “It’s not over”

Yvan Muller (Chevrolet Cruze), after the Japanese round of the World Touring Car Championship, moved a little closer to a second world title, after 2008. The Frenchman, third in the two Okayama races, was able to take advantage of the wet track to correct difficult qualifying (8th time) and score big points.

In addition, the former specialist in Andros Trophy had success on his side, having seen Andy Priaulx (BMW) then Gabriele Tarquini (Seat) abandon during the second Sunday race. For the Italian, reigning champion, the title race is now over. As for the Briton, three-time winner of the WTCC, he is now in a delicate situation, being 37 points behind the leader.

At the foot of the podium, the Frenchman could only be satisfied. “ I pushed hard throughout the first race to finish ahead of Andy for the championship but I couldn't push any further. », Explains Yvan Muller, second behind Andy Priaulx during the first race.

But, even at the end of this successful weekend, the Chevrolet driver wants to remain cautious and knows that the final round of the championship, in Macau, could prove to be full of pitfalls. “ It's obvious that a lead of 37 points is a good advantage but there will be 50 points to hand out in Macau so it's not over. But I am very satisfied. »
