The Mugen Honda team is on cloud nine this Sunday, October 17. The Japanese team won the penultimate round of the 2021 Super Formula season thanks to Hiroki Otsu but also and above all the Drivers' title via Tomoki Nojiri.

Contested on a drying track at Motegi, the race was interrupted by three Safety Car interventions. The last neutralization was used to clear the track after an accident involving one of the contenders for the crown, Toshiki Oyu (Nakajima Racing).

The other rival for the title, Yuhi Sekiguchi (Team Impul), had to aim for a podium finish to prolong the suspense. This was not the case (4th) and Tomoki Nojiri could thus settle for a fifth position at the finish.

Author of three successes in six rounds this season, the 32-year-old driver won the most important title of his career, and with style to boot. Indeed, the last man to secure the crown with one event still to go was the Frenchman Loïc duval in 2009.

The only Habs entered, Sacha Fenestraz (Kondo Racing), finished out of the points for his return to Japanese soil after several months of visa problems.
