C1 – De Vries puts on a show in Hungary, Russell abandoned

There were two very distinct races in Formula 2 at the Hungaroring (Hungary) Saturday afternoon: before and after the mid-course pit stops. During the first section of the race, Lando Norris (Carlin) was the shining man of the bunch. Starting fifth, the Briton overtook his opponents one by one despite a wet track to take the lead on the tenth lap.

The sun having returned to Budapest, the protégé of McLaren decided to opt for slick tires during his pit stop, like the entire field. Her car certainly had to make adjustments for wet roads because he suffered the blow from his first kilometers with the medium tires.

This very involuntary slowdown benefited Nyck de Vries (Prema). The Dutchman, also closely watched by McLaren, erased his 14 seconds behind at lightning speed! Seven passes from the finish, he easily found the opening and a solid lead of… 17 seconds was built!

Nyck de Vries masterfully signed his second victory of the season after the Paul-Ricard Sprint Race (Var). Lando Norris did not lose everything since he seriously returned to the general classification on the leader George Russell (ART Grand Prix).

The latter, author of the fourth fastest time in practice, left from the stands after having had a new clutch problem. Stuck in 19th place, his ordeal ended when he returned to the garage because ofa stuck accelerator pedal on the 13th lap.

In particular conditions, the outsiders had a field day. Antonio Fuoco (Prema) gained eight places to be on the last step of the podium. On paper third, Sergio Sette Camara (Carlin) was penalized for a collision with the Italian a stone's throw from the checkered flag.

The Sprint Race is scheduled for Sunday at 11:20 a.m.
