C2: Russell passes between the drops in Sochi

At the start, Nirei Fukuzumi (Arden) keeps the pole position advantage while Alessio Lorandi (Trident) and Nicholas latifi (DAMS) get stuck and involve the intervention of the safety car.

George Russell (ART GP), moved up to second on the second lap, managed to pass Fukuzumi on the 5the round. However, halfway through the race, the rain, although not planned for the program, disrupted the event, forcing all the drivers to stop to change to rain tires.

At ease in the rain, Russell quickly passed the Charouz of Louis Delétraz and Antonio Fuoco, who had taken the gamble of staying on slicks, to settle comfortably at the head of the race.

Conversely, Lando Norris (Carlin) experienced an ordeal race with a 10-second stop and go for not having respected his place during the formation lap and a retirement after a puncture at the end of the race.

George Russell scores his 6the victory of the season ahead of Sergio Sette Câmara (Carlin) and Alex Albon. After a bitter battle on the track, Nyck de Vries (Prema Racing) ahead of Artem Markelov (Russian Time) in 4e and 5e position. Roberto Merhi (Campos) finishes 6e in front of Nirei Fukuzumi and Dorian Boccolacci (MP Motorsport). Antonio Fuoco and Maximilian Günther (Arden) complete the top 10.

With a victory and the fastest lap in the race, George Russell takes a big step towards the title with 37 points ahead of his only remaining rival Alexander Albon. With 51 points behind, Lando Norris is officially no longer in the running for the title.
