Two months have passed since the last round in Russia, but nothing has changed in Formula 2. Callum Ilott (UNI-Virtuosi) took a fifth pole position on the Sakhir track. He especially took advantage of it to regain four of the twenty-two points behind that he was counting on. Mick Schumacher before the start of the weekend.
On the front row, the Briton will have the Brazilian Felipe Drugovich (MP Motorsport) alongside him, and Dan Ticktum (DAMS) just behind him. Having struggled since the start of the season, Marcus Armstrong (ART Grand Prix) achieved a good 4th place, far ahead of his teammate Christian Lundgaard.
As is often the case in qualifying, the Prema drivers experienced some difficulties since the championship leader Mick Schumacher will only start in 10th position, four places ahead of his colleague Robert Shwartzman.
The big loser of the afternoon, however, is called Yuki tsunoda (Pug). In search of a Top 5 in the championship in the race for his superlicense, the Japanese suffered a technical problem during qualifying and he will have to start from last place on Saturday.
On the French side, Giuliano Alesi (MP Motorsport) took a good 6th place before experiencing a technical problem at the end of the session. His compatriot Theo Pourchaire (HWA Racelab), which is new to the category, will start 16th, after finishing 1”4 behind the pole time.
