De Vries dominant in Monaco, Schumacher causes a red flag

Un Schumacher blocked at the Rascasse bend in Monaco ; no, you did not return in 2006, during the willful misconduct of Michael Schumacher to keep its pole position F1, but in Race 1 of the Formula 2 this Friday, May 23. This time, it was his son Mick who caused an obstruction of the track.

The Prema driver, equipped with fresh tires, attempted an overly optimistic attack on Tatiana Calderon (Arden) shortly before halfway. The red flag was brandished in order to clear the track. The outgoing champion of the Formula 3 Europe received a drive-through penalty.

This incident became the major event of this long race. The poleman Nyck de Vries (ART Grand Prix), sailed towards deserved success. The 24-year-old Dutchman led the event from start to finish, and signed his sixth victory in the discipline, ahead of Luca Ghiotto (UNI-Virtuosi) and Nobuharu Matsushita (Carlin).

He also carries out the correct operation of the day. The leader of the general classification Nicholas latifi (Dams) stood out for several blunders, on Mick Schumacher at the hairpin and Sean Gelael (Prema) in particular. The Canadian was penalized with a drive through and scored no points.

The French were more successful. Starting from 13th place, Dorian Boccolacci (Campos) finished fifth. Anthoine Hubert (Arden) once again dominated her teammate Tatiana Calderon and finished ninth. Only Giuliano Alesi (Trident) did not score a point (12th). The ranking could however change during the day, investigations relating to the red flag procedure being ongoing.
