It was only its second edition, but the Nashville Grand Prix has already earned its reputation as the most eventful event on the calendar IndyCar. The final city race of the 2022 season was interrupted by seven neutralizations (Full Course Yellow) and one red flag until Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) won after more than two hours of effort.

The New Zealander recorded his 53rd victory in the North American discipline in the city of country music, which allows him to overtake legend Mario Andretti in the statistics. AJ Foyt remains the record holder with 67 victories. More importantly, Scott Dixon is completely relaunching for a seventh IndyCar title.

Ideally placed in second place after qualifying, Romain Grosjean (Andretti) could finally aim for a satisfactory result. The Frenchman was in the fight for the top 5, or even the podium given his displayed pace, but was the victim of a decidedly too optimistic attack from Josef Newgarden (Team Penske) five laps from the end.

The two-time IndyCar champion wanted to overtake three competitors in the same corner; this very rarely works. The Race Direction did not impose a penalty on the American.

A second and quite enterprising time on Alex Palou, simon pagenaud (Meyer Shank Racing) downgraded following a differential problem. The 500 Indy 2019 winner battled to finish in the top 10 and benefited from a post-race penalty awarded to Jack Harvey (RLL) to climb to 9th.

In the fight for the title, it is possible to cross out Pato O'Ward (Arrow McLaren SP) of the suitors. The Mexican, who arrived in Tennessee in sixth place in the championship, retired after a collision with Graham Rahal (RLL).

Winner of the last Indianapolis 500 and in the lead overall since the legendary oval race (until the Indy GP at the beginning of August), Marcus Ericsson (Chip Ganassi Racing) suffered his first setback in 2022. The Swede slowed down a first time and the repairs made remotely by the pit wall were useless since he stopped definitively with 4 laps to go.
