(Episode 6/7) The highlights of the 2018 single-seater year

Anthoine Hubert last GP3 champion
France will forever be the last victorious nation in the GP3 Series, and we can thank Anthoine Hubert and ART Grand Prix. The Lyonnais used his trump card (consistency) to patiently build his Drivers' title. “I spent the winter studying races and champion seasons from previous years and set myself a points goal to achieve each weekend”, explains the champion. As for the team based in Yonne, it achieved a feat: winning the Drivers and Teams crowns four times in a row.

A great promotion F2
For the first time since 2010, the final podium of Formula 2 will reach the Formula 1. Targeted as the bookmakers' favorite at the start of the campaign, Lando Norris will arrive at McLaren despite a difficult end to the season. Protected by Williams, George Russell showed that maturity does not wait for the number of kilometers. As for Alex Albon, he had to terminate his contract with Nissan e.dams in Formula e in order to marry Toro Rosso.

Flörsch crash in Macau
Undeniably one of the shocking images of 2018, all disciplines combined. The 65th Macau Grand Prix could have turned into tragedy when on the fourth lap, Sophia Flörsch (Van Amersfoort Racing) took off on a curb at the end of the straight. Passed over the security fence, la car hit a photographer's booth head-on.

Two photographers and a commissioner were injured as well as the pilot Sho Tsuboi. The German suffered a spinal fracture. Fortunately, all of these people have since been rescued. Sophia Flörsch even announced his participation in the Formula European Masters in 2019.

Bourdais winner in St-Petersburg
Eventually, it will become a habit. Sébastien Bourdais started 2018 by a victory on the street circuit of St-Petersburg en IndyCar, as was already the case in 2017. The Frenchman, despite the limited means of his Dale Coyne Racing structure, collected a trophy with emotion, 10 months after his terrible accident during Indy 500 testing. had no complexes facing the Penske or Ganassi armadas as our following highlight proves…

Crazy overtaking in Long Beach
The sparkling spring form of the four-time Champ Car champion takes him to some crazy maneuvers. Perhaps inspired by the late braking of Daniel Ricciardo in F1, Sébastien Bourdais decided to take on not one, not two, but three competitors in a single attack! All while changing trajectory:

This triple overtaking was not appreciated by the commissioners, who asked him to let Scott Dixon pass. In fact, the Manceau had bitten on the pit exit line, an act prohibited by the regulations. With rage in his stomach, he complied, only to pass the New Zealander again a few moments later!

Fenestraz first leader of F3 Europe
Despite his podium at the Macau Grand Prix in November, Sacha Fenestraz lost the support of Renault. Too bad, because the Franco-Argentinian still achieved some convincing performances in Formula 3 Europe, and in particular on the demanding Pau circuit. Winner of Race 2, the 2.0 Formula Renault 2017 Eurocup champion was the most consistent of the Béarn weekend. This thunderous start to the campaign for the rookie will not, however, be confirmed during the following rounds.
