Eurocup-3: Rivera shines, Caranta gains confidence before Le Castellet

After a contrasting first round on the side of the Red Bull Ring, Jules Caranta was more consistent. The French driver had finished the first of the two races in Austria outside the points, after a qualifying period in which he had been further back. In Race 2, however, he managed to secure his first EuroCup-3 podium, suggesting a strong build-up ahead of the second round.

On the Portimao circuit, the Frenchman proved more consistent in terms of race results. Fourth in a first race dominated by Campos and Griffin Core, Jules Caranta was once again overtaken by the Spanish team's other driver, Mexican Ernesto Rivera. Second, the 16-year-old hopeful proved even faster the following day.

Caranta takes advantage of a penalty to optimize his result

Polesitter for the first qualifying session of the weekend, Polish driver Kacper Sztuka, was in a battle with Jules Caranta. After a superb overtake during this second qualifying session, the French driver first secured a very encouraging podium finish, his second this season. While his teammate Ernesto Rivera brilliantly won this race, also taking the championship lead thanks to a solid weekend, Caranta ended the weekend with a pleasant surprise.

Initially third, the young driver supported by the Red Bull network gained a position to finally finish second due to the penalty imposed on Mattia Colnaghi. The Italian, driving for MP Motorsport, was penalized after maneuvering in front of the Frenchman outside the track limits.

From June 20th to 22nd, the EuroCup-3 will be held in France, at the Paul-Ricard circuit in Le Castellet. Jules Caranta will naturally be highly anticipated, and will certainly be looking for his first victory, having already tasted podium finishes at this stage. Fifth with 47 points, the French rookie is 19 points behind the new leader, Ernesto Rivera.
