German F4: Edgar champion by one breath, Bernier 5th

Already last year, when Theo Pourchaire took the crown of German F4 champion, he was only seven points apart from his runner-up Dennis Hauger. The 2020 vintage offered an even closer fight since it was only two points ahead of his teammate Jak Crawford that Jonny Edgar (Van Amersfoort) was crowned on Sunday at Oschersleben.

And yet, by winning the first two races of the weekend, the American Crawford had the luxury of approaching the last of the year in the shoes of the championship leader. But a 6th place, coupled with Edgar's 2nd, finally allowed the Briton to recover his property. In history, it is Red Bull who is rubbing his hands, since the two teenagers come from the Junior Team of the Austrian team.

13th in Spanish F4 last season with Jenzer, Edgar (16 years old) was able to raise his level for his 2nd year in car. The European champion of karting CIK-FIA 2017 also benefited from end-of-season FIA testing F3 to test with MP Motorsport, which could give a vague idea of his aspirations for next season.

Will he take the plunge like Théo Pourchaire did before him? Where will he line up in Formula Alpine, the brand new competition resulting from the merger of the Regional and the Eurocup? For Jonny Edgar as for Jak Crawford, it is probably Red Bull who will decide.

As for Frenchman Victor Bernier, world karting champion in 2018, he finished the season in 5th position. An honorable performance within a high quality team (R-Ace GP) but which was only competing in its second year across the Rhine. The Habs finished the season with six podiums including two victories, and would have even finished 4th in the drivers' standings if Tim Tramnitz had not won the last race of the season.
