A new wind is blowing at DAMS. After a complicated period between the 2020 and 2021 seasons, the Sarthoise team is gradually regaining color. Now under the leadership of Charles Pic since February 2022, the structure founded by Rene Arnoux and Jean-Paul Driot was able to taste victory in the Main Race thanks to Ayumu Iwasa on two occasions but also in pole positions.

« It was a good season, summarizes Charles Pic when drawing up an initial assessment. We started well but there was an initial period of adaptation because I didn't know certain members of the team. We then progressed race after race, Ayumu (Iwasa) gained strength throughout the season and we made good progress.."

DAMS, a gradual return to the top of the ranking

It is with this in mind that DAMS is attacking its second campaign under the tutelage of the former pilot of F1. While Ayumu Iwasa decided to return for a 2e year in which it will play for the title, DAMS also welcomes Arthur Leclerc with whom the French team hopes to confirm the progress seen in 2022. On paper, the duo in any case looks great and should allow the Le Mans structure to fight in the outposts.

« The goal is to continue to improve and do better than in 2022, continues the former Caterham driver. We were not able to reach the Top 5 or the podiums at the start of the year but the team worked a lot. In the middle of the season we were then able to fight at the front and at the end of the championship we were able to fight for poles and victories. It's one thing to get pole and win a race, but it's even more difficult to be able to repeat that performance consistently and across all rounds of the season. The objective for 2023 will be to have this consistency across all meetings and to be able to fight at the forefront each time."

In addition to the objectives with its pilots, Charles Pic believes that DAMS has “ the capacities » to win the Teams title but is aware that there is “ three or four teams » which can also be sacred. The Habs in any case expects “ a very high level ».
