It's a great way to bounce back after a very nervous sprint the day before. This time, Alex Dunne (Rodin Motorsport) showed great maturity to win the Main Race in Bahrain.

Fourth on the grid, the Irishman took advantage of the poor starts of Luke Browning (Hitech GP) and Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix) in front of him to quickly position himself in the exhausts of poleman Leonardo Fornaroli (Invicta Racing). In great form and while the Italian seemed to be struggling slightly with his tires under the Sakhir sun, Alex Dunne went on the attack at the start of lap 7 and dropped his rival who did not put up the slightest resistance, focusing instead on the long term.

The protégé of McLaren was then able to roll out his own race plan. While the staggered strategy (hard then soft) ultimately seemed stronger than expected, Alex Dunne remained calm while many of his rivals, who had started on hard, decided to stop very early in the race. The Irishman pushed his back until 16th. A choice that ultimately paid off as he emerged ahead of all his direct rivals and, above all, with more tire freshness.

He quickly distanced himself from Victor Martins, Josep Maria Marti (Campos) and Leonardo Fornaroli to ride quietly. His main threat was ultimately Luke Browning. With an offbeat strategy, the Englishman managed to come back despite completing more than half the race on soft tyres after his stop. Unfortunately, he paid for his lack of capital at the end of the race when the gap to Alex Dunne stabilized to exceed 8 seconds.

The Irishman thus rode solo to his first success in Formula 2, who is starting this season, and especially since October 22, 2023 at Donington, when he was still riding in British GB3. Leonardo Fornaroli completed the podium ahead of Josep Maria Marti and Victor Martins.

Starting 7th, Sami Meguetounif (Trident), the second Frenchman entered in F2 this year, had a difficult Main Race, including a prolonged pit stop. He was a quiet performer, finishing 15th.

In the championship, Leonardo Fornaroli is in the lead with 26 points, 1 more than Alex Dunne and Luke Browning.

The next F2 round will take place next weekend in Saudi Arabia.
