It was almost to be expected, the Main Race of Formula 2 in Australia will not take place. Race management announced its cancellation after a long period of back-and-forth, due in part to the heavy downpours hitting Albert Park. Initially scheduled for 1:30 a.m. (French time), the start was delayed for the first time before being given behind the safety car a good ten minutes later.
The joy was short-lived, as the red flag was waved before the end of the first lap, forcing the field to return to the pit lane. After a long interruption and several postponements of the new formation lap, the race resumed at around 2:15 (French time) behind the Safety Car once again and for 24 minutes on the clock. But after a few reconnaissance laps, a new red flag was shown, definitively ending the drivers' hopes. Indeed, a few moments later, race control announced the definitive cancellation of the event.
This is a blow for everyone, especially for Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix), who had taken pole position. Due to the cancellation and the fact that the leader did not complete two laps without a safety car or virtual safety car, no points will be awarded.
It is therefore Joshua Dürksen (AIX Racing) who leaves Australia as the championship leader after his victory in the Sprint Race on SaturdayThe next round of the 2025 Formula 2 season is scheduled for Bahrain (April 11-13).
