The man of the weekend: Oscar piastri (Prema)

It's not very original, we agree, but how can we not choose a driver who scored a fifth pole in a row, a new victory in the main race, and who above all officially acquired the title of champion of Formula 2 as a rookie? The Australian delivered a meeting that lived up to the image of his season: dominant. He finished 60,5 points ahead of his teammate Robert Shwartzman.

Disappointment of the weekend: Jüri Vips

In absolute terms, the Estonian did not have a catastrophic weekend, but given his talent, we imagined that he would be able to challenge Theo Pourchaire for 5th place in the championship. Only 12 in C1, the pilot Red Bull missed the reverse grid for the Saturday afternoon race. But things went badly in C2, as he was caught in an incident involving him with Nissany and Piastri. His eighth place in the main race on Sunday was insufficient to hope for 5th place.

Video of the weekend: Daruvala's beautiful, rough defense in C1

Winner of the first race of the weekend, the Indian Jehan Daruvala (Carlin) had to work to keep behind him Felipe Drugovich (UNI-Virtuosi) arriving on his heels with great pace. But an intelligent defense, which stretched across the entire sector 3, allowed the Carlin driver to stay in front and win Race 1. Racing the way we like it!

Fact of the weekend: Marcus Armstrong's retirement

After allowing DAMS the previous week to return to victory for the first time in 489 days, Marcus Armstrong did not come far from doing it again. Tenth in Race 1, the New Zealander started on pole for Race 2. After having perfectly managed his start and two safety car restarts, Armstrong saw his engine cut out and his car stop. Guanyu-Zhou took the opportunity to take control from him and win the race. “I feel sorry for Marcus,” the Chinese man admitted.

The weekend figure:

2

For only his second participation in an F2 meeting, Jack Doohan impressed by taking second place in qualifying. The Australian, vice-champion of F3 this year, made a mistake in the main race, which forced him to retire. But he left his mark and made an appointment for 2022.

The French weekend:

Théo Pourchaire: 6th in Q, 7th in C1, 9th in C2, 4th in CP
Clément Novalak: 20th in Q, 17th in C1, 17th in C2, 14th in CP

The statement of the weekend: Oscar piastri

" My secret ? Since Silverstone, I eat an ice cream or a sorbet before each qualifying. There I am, bringing it out into the open.” Oscar Piastri, questioned about the secrets of his five poles in a row.
