The man of the weekend: Oscar piastri (Prema)

He is not only the man of the weekend, he is also the man of the season. Author of a fourth pole in a row in Jeddah, the Australian won two of the three races of the weekend, including the main race shortened and then interrupted following the crash between Theo Pourchaire and Enzo Fittipaldi. With 51,5 points ahead of Robert Shwartzman, the Prema driver is almost assured of the title, which he should validate in Abu Dhabi next weekend. Once again Piastri showed great superiority.

The disappointment of the weekend: Guanyu-Zhou (UNI-Virtuosi)

Hangover for the Chinese. Second in the championship before heading to Saudi Arabia, Zhou had a difficult weekend from an accounting standpoint. Only 6th in qualifying, Zhou was caught in a collision with his colleague from theAlpine Academy Christian Lundgaard at the first corner, also forcing him to start from far away in C2 to finish in 8th place. His fourth position in Sunday's non-sprint race earned him only half the points. Before the last meeting in Abu Dhabi, he is third in the championship. We expected a better weekend from the future driver of F1.

Video of the weekend: Piastri overtaking Daruvala

Very intelligently, Oscar Piastri waited for the right moment in C2 to get rid of race leader Jehan Daruvala. After waiting for DRS to be cleared, the Melbourne native tried to pass T1 on the outside several times, before sneaking inside on lap 17 and winning the race. Bright.

The fact of the weekend: the Fittipaldi-Pourchaire accident

This is the event we could have done without. After stalling on the grid, Théo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) was hit head-on and from behind by the Brazilian Enzo Fittipaldi. Despite a lot of concern due to the lack of news at first, the two men were taken to hospital. The examinations carried out revealed nothing for the Frenchman, while the Brazilian suffered from a fractured heel.

The weekend figure:

489

This is the number of days between DAMS' previous victory in Formula 2 (August 2, 2020 at Silverstone, Dan Ticktum) of the latest, gleaned this weekend in C1 by Marcus Armstrong in Jeddah. A delightful return to the forefront for the Le Mans team, which hopes to ride the momentum to get back on track in the long term.

Théo Pourchaire’s weekend:

Qualification: P3
Race 1: Ab.
Race 2: P6
Main race: Ab.

In terms of accounting, Théo only took four points, acquired thanks to a sublime comeback from 19th to 6th place in Race 2. An error earned him a retirement in C1, before his main race came to an end. when the lights went out, during the crash with Enzo Fittipaldi.

The statement of the weekend:

“I hope Theo and Enzo are ok. I think it's only a matter of time before we put anti-stall on these cars. I’m sure this kind of crash could have been avoided with that.”

Jake Hughes, who has competed in several F2 rounds in recent months, after the crash between Pourchaire and Fittipaldi.

Classification :

Prema was crowned Team champion. The drivers' title will be played out between Piastri and Shwartzman in Abu Dhabi.
